Freedom Pharmacy

Freedom Pharmacy, a nonprofit pharmacy located within Main at Locust Pharmacy, is dedicated to improving the health of low-income individuals in Iowa. Our mission is to dispense donated medications and supplies to the community that would otherwise be destroyed.

The establishment of the Iowa Prescription Drug Donation Repository (PDDR) was made possible by the passage of House File 724 in the Iowa State Legislature. The program, overseen by the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners, has been administered since 2006 by SafeNetRx (formerly known as the Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation), a nonprofit organization. Participating pharmacies have the opportunity to receive unused medications donated from long-term care pharmacies that have not left the supervision of a healthcare provider. These medications are then re-dispensed to qualified patients in the community.

Qualified patients include individuals residing in Iowa who fall below 200% of the federal poverty level or who are uninsured or under-insured.
